Running For Shapes

On Friday we had a very busy morning for sure!  We hosted a little Father's Day playdate from 9-1 and Braden was busy playing with friends the entire time!  Then it was nice to relax and have some quiet time during nap.  After dinner Braden and I had some fun with the shape cards again.

This time I decided to do a little shape sorting and drew the basic shapes onto paper plates (circle, square, rectangle, heart, circle & triangle).  I included the star & the heart because I know he recognizes those easily.  I set the paper plates up in the entryway and then I had Braden come sit with me in the living room.  I randomly chose one card for him to name, and then I demonstrated how to run over to the plates and find the matching shape.  Then we ran back to the starting point to try again.  He knew exactly what to do the next time.

He really had a lot of fun with this "game" and loved running back and forth.  He did have some trouble with the shapes, but it was so cute and really fun to watch.

Taking a break to check out his foot
Placing the star
Braden looking for the heart.  I think he was a little confused, because he had already placed a heart on the plate.

Up close look at the plates & Braden sorting the different shapes.

Then we took a little break from the sorting shapes to try another activity from the busy bags.  Creating Shapes was actually the activity that I put together for all of the busy bag participants.  It is definitely meant for when they are much older and can make shapes themselves.  But, I tried anyway - creating the shapes for Braden to see and having them try to name them.  He still has trouble with square & rectangle, but is doing really well with triangle & circle.

Hmm, what is this?

This game is much more fun!

Afterwards he wanted to go back to the plate game.  He took the plates over to the entry way and spread them out.  Then came back for the cards, except this time he didn't bother with trying to sort them...   He had fun naming them and running!
