Matching Shapes

This week we are working on learning new shapes.  Braden knows things like heart & star, but not really any of the basic shape names.

In the morning I put up some window decals of animals holding different shapes.  He would point out the animal name & I would say the shape.

After nap we did a little turtle craft (he loves playing with the glue stick).  I drew the turtle & pointed out the circle shape on its back.  Then we glued some square shapes onto it to make it look like a turtle shell.

Braden walked around the room for a bit, and then I gave him a pack of color/shape cards.  He pulled a few out and I helped him name the shapes (he would name the colors).  After about 4-5 cards he was off exploring his room again.  I spread out a bunch of the basic ones that I thought he knew or could at least recognize.

Back for another quick peak

Then I decided to use some foam shapes that I had and created a mini shape puzzle for him.  He was much more interested in this activity and successfully matched all of the shapes to their black & white pictures.  He had a little trouble with the sizes - didn't know where to put the "big" square, because the square pictured was much smaller.  But eventually he got the hang of it.

Switched to a smaller square, because he was confused
